Nassau County unveiled an anti-bullying website Wednesday that provides helpful links defining bullying and resources to prevent it.

“If one person used it and it prevents a suicide or a retaliation, then that's a victory,” said Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder.

The site also lists appropriate school and police contacts to help stop bullying.

The launch was a victory for 12-year-old Shayla Sakhai, a student in Syosset who says she has experienced being bullied.

She helped raise $5,000 for the Long Island Anti-Bullying Coalition by making and selling bracelets that have a positive message: “Be kind. Be positive. Be confident. Be you.”  

Shayla says she hopes the website and her bracelets will help kids like her who had to deal with bullies.

“Doing this has made me feel a lot better about myself and I am more confident,” she says. “When the bully heard about me doing this, she started to back off.”
