Republican incumbent Ed Mangano has defeated Democrat Tom Suozzi in the Nassau County Executive race.

This was the second time that Mangano and Suozzi faced off for the county executive seat.

Mangano unseated former County Executive Suozzi four years ago when he won by less than 400 votes.

Mangano says his message of holding the line on taxes has really resonated with county residents.

Republicans kept control of the Nassau Legislature and picked up a seat. The GOP now holds an 11-8 majority.

Mangano won with nearly 59 percent of the vote compared to 41 percent for former Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi.
