Nassau County is on day three of reopening in phase 1 and officials say it’s a start to getting the economy back on the long road to recovery.
“I’m confident that our numbers will continue to go in the right direction to stay on track for a phase two reopening in a couple of weeks,” says Curran.
A total of 17% of the county jobs are back online with those in construction, manufacturing and wholesale trade sectors back to work. Officials say if retail was fully back and not just available curbside, it would be at 30%.
Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that hair salons and barbershops will be included in phase two reopening. Other phase two businesses included will be professional services like insurance companies, law firms and full-service retail. Real estate and rental leasing operations will also be able to recommence in phase two.
Nassau officials also announced the start of drive-in movies at the Nassau Coliseum on the weekend.
NYCB LIVE will have food trucks in parking lots and guests will be able to bring their own snacks. Bathrooms and sanitizing stations will also be available. Those who attend will be required to stay inside their vehicles and a maximum of 200 vehicles will be allowed entry. Tickets must be purchased. (will put link in)
Curran emphasized that COVID-19 testing is the key to a successful reopening. On Thursday, 4,664 viral tests were done – with 2.2% resulting in positive results.
In addition, antibody testing will be offered at community clinics in Hempstead, Freeport, Elmont and Westbury on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 2.
