Police say gunfire erupted two times only hours apart on a North Amityville street yesterday.
In the first incident, authorities say a man was shot just outside of a house on Walnut Road at around 4 p.m. Thursday. Shots were then fired again at around 11:30 p.m. down the block from the first shooting. Police say a bullet from the second incident hit a home.
Authorities believe the two shootings are connected.
The shootings follow other incidents of violence in the community. A teenager was shot in the leg last month on Smith Street. Three men were shot, one fatally, outside of the Hollywood Masonic Lodge in late May.
Suffolk Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory and other lawmakers are pushing for increased patrols in the community.
