Music filled the air in Rockville Centre Friday night as dozens came out for a fundraiser to support SIBSPlace.
For more than two decades, the organization has provided support to children who have a sibling or family member battling an illness.
SIBSPlace executive director Joanna Formont says they have served at least 250 children from across Long Island last year.
"There's a sense of community and a sense of camaraderie where they understand you, they're not judging you,” she said. “They want to give you the space to talk about what's going on and say, 'I get that too! It's happened to me!'"
Formont says SIBSPlace is a vital way to provide a place for children going through tough times to feel welcomed.
"When you're feeling so alone and isolated and you know there's a community for you, it makes a world of difference,” she said.
