MTA officials announced Tuesday that some Long Island Rail Road riders will have discounted tickets this summer while repairs are made to Penn Station.
Officials say riders would see an average 25 percent reduction on their train ticket if they choose not to ride to Penn Station and go to Atlantic Terminal or Hunterspoint instead.
MTA board member Mitch Pally says he wants to take the reduction one step further and offer a 15 percent reduction to every LIRR rider on a peak train while the project is underway.
"In my opinion, everybody is in this together. Everybody is being impacted," he told News 12.
Mark Walsh, a commuter from Ronkonkoma, says it's about time.
"I'm glad they're able to recognize that the down time because of the repairs warrants a rate reduction to the people that ride every day," says Walsh.
The Penn Station track work will begin July 8 and go through Sept. 1.
