The MTA is expected to detail its plans on Monday on how train service this summer will be impacted by Amtrak's work at Penn Station.
Those plans will include reducing peak service to Penn Station by 20 percent. Long Island Rail Road commuters are expected to shoulder disruptions even though the LIRR tracks are not being improved.
An MTA official suggests that commuters start planning out their new routes and sticking with it throughout the summer.
But the Long Island Commuter Council says the MTA should have announced its plan much earlier.
MTA Board Member Mitchell Pally says he hopes the plan minimizes inconvenience for commuters.
Amtrak will begin track work on July 7 and it expects to have the first phase of work completed by Labor Day.
