After a successful pilot program, the MTA eTix app is now available to use systemwide, allowing LIRR commuters to buy tickets on their smartphones.
The app makes it possible for riders to buy round-trip, one-way and monthly tickets.
LIRR officials say using eTix is free and easy: just download the app, buy a ticket using a credit card and activate the ticket before hopping on the train.
Santosh Sahoo says he's used a similar app for travel in his home state of New Jersey. He says Long Islanders will love the convenience.
"The idea is brilliant because if you ever at the end of the month see the lines for a monthly ticket, you'll go onto the app. You'll never stand on line again," he says.
