Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital unveiled its new Epilepsy Monitoring Unit on Wednesday.

Patients with advanced seizure disorders used to be transferred to other facilities, but now they can receive care directly at South Nassau in Oceanside.

"This will allow us to change their medicines, start different medicines and also get accurate diagnoses about where the seizures are coming from,” said EMU co-director Dr. Calvin Yu.

Doctors say the new video technology allows medical personnel look at the brain’s electric activity.

Wires are connected to a patient’s head using stickers, allowing doctors to monitor brain waves for signs of seizures.
