A motorist leaving the Federal Courthouse in Central Islip on Thursday ran over a group of baby Canadian geese, prompting an investigation from the Suffolk SPCA.
In surveillance footage obtained by News 12 Long Island, two adult geese and some baby geese are seen crossing the roadway outside the courthouse. The driver of a black SUV is then seen running over the baby geese without stopping. The adult geese were not injured.
It's unclear if the motorist intentionally struck the geese. The SPCA is asking witnesses to come forward.
Chief Roy Gross, of the Suffolk SPCA, says if the act was intentional, it would be a chargeable offense.
"Even if was an accident, the right thing to do would be to stop and report it," says Gross.
Canada geese are considered federally protected wildlife.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to call the Suffolk SPCA at 631-382-7722.
