Scores of motorcyclists, outraged over the enforcement of parking fees, protested in Port Jefferson Sunday. Starting Sunday, Brookhaven Town is charging $7.00 to park in what used to be a free town lot used by cyclists. To protest the parking lot fee, the motorcyclists parked their Harleys and hogs in the few legal spaces along Main Street. The bikers say the fee is a way for the town to drive motorcyclists out of Port Jefferson. In a statement the town says it is not discriminating. Town officials say they are enforcing town codes that went unenforced under the previous administration. Officials added that the parking fees apply to non-Town of Brookhaven residents only. Some of the motorcyclists say they are considering taking legal action against the town and the village.
