A Hempstead mother who lost her son in a hit-and-run accident says she turned her pain into something positive by donating his organs to those in need. Yolany Veliz?s 16-year-old son Oscar was riding his bike along Clinton Avenue when the driver of a gold Toyota Camry struck him and took off. Her son was left brain dead. Veliz says she made the most difficult decision a mother can make when she took him off life support. Veliz decided to donate her son's vital organs, and she says they have saved the lives of five people. With help from her attorney, she has since created a website to help spread the word about the importance of organ donation. Veliz still wants justice in her son's death. She's offering a $10,000 donation for any information leading to an arrest.
