A mother is frantically trying to track down her missing 19-year-old son, who was last seen on Tuesday.
Laura Alamo, of Glen Cove, says her son Carlos Rivera left home to go to class at NYIT in Old Westbury. He never arrived at school, and has not been seen since then. Alamo says it has been a terrifying few days.
Glen Cove Police Detective Lt. John Nagle says there has been no sign of the teen or his blue 2005 Jeep Wrangler. "We tried the plate readers, we tried the telephone cellular service, spoke to friends, colleagues, and nothing," he says.
Alamo says her son is a smart and athletic young man who was the captain of the basketball and track teams at Glen Cove High School. He is now a sophomore aerospace and aeronautical engineering major at NYIT. Alamo says she's worried that Rivera may have had too much on his plate recently. Last semester, he was enrolled in seven classes, held a job on campus and was a member of his school's robotics club.
Alamo said her son took his pillow, blanket and a tablet with him. She says she believes Rivera is alive, but maybe just needed to get away for a while. She wants him to know that she'll be home, waiting for him.
The license plate on Rivera's Jeep is HCF-3987. Anyone with information that can help Glen Cove police is asked to call 516-676-1002.
