At least 180 cats were found living in a Moriches home on Crystal Beach Road Wednesday.
A rescue group called Rescue Ink helped remove up to 50 cats from the home after the homeowner acknowledged she could not handle them.
The group?s members, known as the ?tough guys with a soft side for animals,? say they will stop at nothing to rescue animals that are in unlivable conditions.
The homeowner told News 12 Long Island that most of the cats in the home came from the breeding of a few original cats.
Veterinary technicians were at the home Wednesday to inoculate and examine nearly 50 of the cats. Karina Antorbeza, with the ASPCA, says the animals have ear mites and some were dehydrated. However, she says it?s hard to blame the elderly homeowner because she had good intentions.
The cats removed from the home will be checked out and put up for adoption. Rescue Ink will return to the home Friday and take some of the cats to be spayed and neutered. The group plans to rescue the rest of the cats over the next few weeks.
