More shark sightings have been reported off of Long Island's South Shore this weekend.
New York State Parks officials say that a fisherman caught a shark this morning at Jones Beach Field 2.
Swimming was briefly prohibited at Field 2, Field 1 and West Bathhouse until further notice. Later Sunday, parks officials said swimmers will only be allowed to enter the water knee-waist deep, and Jet Ski patrols and lifeguards will also be out this weekend monitoring the waters.
According to the park's website, Fields 2 and 6 had filled to capacity and were closed to incoming visitors as of 10 a.m. Sunday.
Another shark was spotted near Atlantic Beach Sunday, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says. Swimming at Nickerson Beach is waist deep only.
A sand shark was also spotted on the shore of Long Beach earlier Sunday.
Yesterday, a fisherman hooked a sandbar shark at Jones Beach.
Numerous shark sightings have been reported off of Long Island's South Shore over the last few weeks.
