More allegations are surfacing against Mercy Medical Center since the state announced it was probing recent deaths at the hospital.
Three families have come forward with stories about poor medical care at Mercy. Rebecca Geffner filed a lawsuit against the hospital in 2005 after her father died there. Geffner said her father Alfred, 82, suffered physical, verbal and emotional abuse by the staff.
Dolores Persky, of Wantagh, said a surgeon there missed her breast cancer diagnosis, while a doctor at another hospital found it easily.
The family of Carol Hibbert, of Hempstead, will soon file a lawsuit claiming a surgeon put a feeding tube into her stomach without consent and without anesthesia.
Dr. Anthony Colantonio, who works at Mercy and has recently come out with similar complaints about the care, said calls from patients and families keep pouring in. Colantonio characterizes the hospital as infected by corruption and administratively dysfunctional.
Mercy Medical Center said in a statement it can?t comment on specific cases, but that patient safety is the top priority. Hospital officials said they're confident others will find the complaints to be without merit.
