Ferry service will now connect St. George and Bay Ridge starting Monday.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) finalized the Ferry Optimization Plan, the city’s first systemwide route redesign since the service launched in 2017. The changes are designed to shorten commute times, improve efficiency, and make ferries a bigger part of New York City’s transportation network.

Riders in parts of South Brooklyn are also getting upgrades including new service straight to Midtown Manhattan.

Commuters DB Lampman says her commute is now much easier.

“Normally to get here I normally have to take a really long route to get here via the ferry or subway to get here. So, it's nice to not have to drive. And I got here this morning in10 minutes, and I have a quick 10-minute walk to work. And on my way home,” said Lampman.

The city says a new ferry landing is also being designed in Sunset Park, in hopes of giving Brooklyn residents even more options.
