More North Merrick neighbors contacted News 12 about mail delivery dilemmas they say they’ve dealt with for years.

News 12 first heard from residents, like Heidi Donato of North Merrick, on Thursday who say it's been an increasing problem over the last year.

"I'm not living on Mars, I'm not living on a mountain, I live in Merrick. It's not a hard place to find,” she said.

Several people have called and sent messages to News 12 about the issue.

People on Wilson Avenue, Madison Place, and Sycamore Avenue contacted News 12 saying they’re unfortunately no stranger to the problem.

Mary Rooney, of North Merrick, says she also noticed a worsening problem over the last year.

"It's been extremely inconsistent where we're getting things much later than we have in the past,” said Rooney.

Jimmy Muller, of North Merrick, says he remembers a time when he knew his mail carrier.

"I don't even know whether we have a consistent mail carrier or not, cause sometimes I'll see a man, sometimes I'll see a woman,” he said. "Recently, it's been more evident where you'll have multiple days with no mail."

Rooney says packages are also taking longer to get to them.

"It's taking a little bit longer than I thought, so it will be a week or so when it says two or three days most likely it'll be delivered,” she said.

Some neighbors, like Gary Opas of North Merrick, have been lucky to not have any issues.

"None that I've noticed anyhow,” he said. “It seems to be coming every day pretty much."

A Postal Service representative told news 12, “We are not aware of any mail delays, all mail is being delivered.”

Neighbors say they just want the Post Office to fix the problem.

"Just to look into why the inconsistencies that didn't exist before and now we see it and it's everyone in this area that is experiencing the same problem," said Rooney.

If you're missing your mail, USPS recommends contacting a postal representative by calling 1-800-ASK-USPS or heading to www.usps.com.
