A teen surfing sensation from Montauk is looking to become a world champion in 2024.
Chase Lieder, 17, first tried surfing when he was just 2 years old.
"I fell in, and I got dunked for a while and I came up and was a little dazed," Lieder says.
Instead of scaring him away from the waves, Lieder became motivated and says he wanted to become a professional surfer by the time he was 5 or 6 years old.
Lieder has already won four national championships.
"It's more than I ever expected," Lieder says. "I feel like my hard work paid off, I'm grateful."
Now, the Montauk surfer is expected to ride the waves for his country in the 2024 World Surfing Games. He is one of just two surfers in the United States to earn a spot on the team.
Lieder tells News 12 he also has his eyes on the Olympics either in 2024 or 2028.
Surfing became an Olympic sport at the 2020 Summer Games.
