Monkeys, anaconda surrendered at Suffolk animal amnesty event in Holtsville
More than a dozen exotic animals were turned in today, no questions asked, at an amnesty event in Suffolk County.
The event was held at the Holtsville Ecology Site. Several exotic snakes and turtles were turned in without any fear of prosecution by their now-former owners.
Among the more unusual was a pair of Marmoset monkeys. They had lived out of state, but when their owner recently died, a family felt compelled to help.
A young green anaconda was also turned in.
The animals will all be cared for at rescue sites that are equipped to handle them.
Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross says the agency fields many complaints each year about illegal exotic animals in local homes.
