According to AAA, the price of regular gas is up 88 cents per gallon since last year. AAA officials say the average price of gas in New York City is currently $3.24 a gallon. To prevent travelers from emptying their wallets at the pump, AAA officials have offered several tips to save money. Officials advise drivers keep tires properly inflated, check air filters regularly and change oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.
AAA officials also say travelers should remove extra weight from their cars and fill up gas tanks in the early morning or late evening hours. Finally, AAA urges residents to stay out of their cars during short trips and walk or ride a bike instead.
