Molloy College has terminated its contract with its food vendor after students discovered maggots, roaches and undercooked chicken in the school’s cafeterias.
News 12 spoke to students who say at least five people got food poisoning after eating food prepared by vendor Compass USA. Photos began circulating on campus of a maggot on broccoli, a feather in the chicken wings and a cockroach in a bagel.
A student started a petition to get the college to change the food vendor, which received overwhelming support.
A spokesman for Molloy College says this was "clearly not an acceptable situation."
By the end of the week, the college ended its contract with Compass USA and closed its two main cafeterias. Molloy has since brought in food trucks until they contract with a new food provider.
The Nassau County Health Department says it is actively investigating after receiving two complaints from students at Molloy College. Compass USA has not responded to News 12’s request for comment.
A spokesman for the college says it will be several weeks before they secure a contract with a new food vendor.
