A Middle Island man's wait for a much longed-for reunion ended Thursday, as his children, who were trapped in Georgia when Russian tanks rolled in, returned home.
Vasily Dzhordzhadze sent his two teenagers, George and Katie, to Georgia for the summer to meet family members and learn about his home country.
George and Katie were two of about 30 American kids trapped in the country during the fighting. Vasily Dzhordzhadze turned to Rep. Tim Bishop (D?N.Y.) for help. Bishop urged the federal government to send more convoys to pick up the trapped children.
However, international flights recently resumed because of a cease-fire agreed upon by the two sides.
