A Merrick family has been reunited with their beloved dog after it went missing from their home during a burglary on Monday.

Police and the Lafkas family both tell News 12 Long Island that the 2-year-old Bichon-Shih Tzu, named Cookie, is back home.

They have declined to say how or where Cookie was found.

As News 12 Long Island has reported, police have said that a thief entered the Merrick Avenue home through a basement window and took a flat-screen TV, iPad, Xbox and some jewelry. Cookie also went missing, but it's unclear if the dog was stolen or if it escaped.

So far, no arrests have been made. The investigation is still ongoing.
