Mayor Zohran Mamdani has announced Gregory Anderson will be the new commissioner for the city's Department of Sanitation.
Anderson will oversee a staff of nearly 10,000 employees and continue to advance goals to better handle trash and implement curbside composting.
Most recently, Anderson served as deputy director of state operations for Gov. Kathy Hochul.
With this appointment, Javier Lojan will step down as acting commissioner of DSNY and resume his role as first deputy commissioner.
