A 43-year-old Long Beach man has been arrested and charged after police say he pushed a woman down the stairs following an argument.

Nassau County police say Shawn Morgenroth entered the woman’s East Hills home on Saturday without permission and began arguing with her. Authorities say he took her phone and prevented her from leaving.

The dispute escalated when Morgenroth allegedly pushed the woman down the stairs, causing minor injuries.

Officers later found Morgenroth hiding in the basement, where police say he was threatening them while holding a metal object. Officers used an electronic control device, commonly known as a Taser, to take him into custody.

Both Morgenroth and the woman were taken to a nearby hospital.

Investigators later determined that Morgenroth had violated a valid order of protection.

He is charged with burglary, robbery, assault, unlawful imprisonment, and other offenses.
