Mayor Bill de Blasio met with the city's police unions Tuesday in an effort to clear the air amid recent tensions.
The conflict has been brewing since the killings of two NYPD officers and the city's response to protests over police conduct.
Union leaders have said that de Blasio is fostering an anti-NYPD atmosphere, which could have contributed to the officer's deaths.
Press Secretary Phil Walzak released a statement, saying in part, "The meeting focused on building a productive dialogue and identifying ways to move forward together. The mayor and police commissioner remain committed to supporting the brave men and women in uniform who protect us every day."
