Authorities say a student in the William Floyd School District was almost abducted Thursday morning, marking the third incident involving a young girl from the district in 10 days.
Police say the 12-year-old girl was nearly abducted at her bus stop around 8 a.m. They say a man in a red Hummer pulled up to her and tried to coax her into his car. He drove away when the school bus arrived. Police say the car had no license plates.
Authorities say they have stepped up unmarked and marked patrols in the area. On Monday, a 17-year-old student reported being sexually assaulted in a wooded area near William Floyd High School. The week before, police say a 14-year-old student was sexually abused near the school by a man posing as a cop.
Police say they do not believe the most recent incident is related to the others.
