An allegedly drunk Mastic Beach man is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase before slamming into several cars and a person Sunday.
Nassau police say Luis Zavala made an erratic U-turn on Hempstead Turnpike near Merrick Avenue in Hempstead. They say Zavala then ran nine red lights during a more than two-mile chase, which ended when Zavala allegedly slammed his van into a taxi, four parked cars and a pedestrian. The pedestrian was brought to Nassau University Medical Center, where he is listed in serious condition.
Zavala is charged with DWI and vehicular assault. He is being held on $500,000 bond, or $150,000 cash bail.
