Police are investigating a fire that destroyed a two-story home in Dix Hills Monday afternoon.
Seven fire departments were at the scene for hours extinguishing the flames. Fire officials say the blaze spread quickly due to high winds and the home?s vinyl siding.
Dix Hills Fire Department Chief Larry Feld says the mother and son who escaped the fire were very lucky.
Officials have yet to determine the cause of the fire. The home was boarded up and a fence was erected around it Monday evening.
