The Massapequa School District is calling on President Donald Trump to sign an executive order to safeguard the use of Native American names and images across the country.
News 12 has been told the proposal would protect the use of Native American names, imagery and symbols.
In the past, Trump has shown his support of the school district’s fight to keep the Chiefs name.
As News 12 has reported, schools that did not comply with the state’s Native American mascot ban risk losing state funding.
