A shooting spree that left a Massapequa man dead and others injured in Queens ended with the suspect surrendering to authorities Saturday.
Officials say 34-year-old Matthew Colletta got behind the wheel of his Cadillac and shot a man who was walking his dog in Maspeth, Queens about 7:20 p.m. Friday. Colletta allegedly continued through the borough, randomly firing his gun along the way. However, several people who were targeted were in red vehicles.
Todd and Mary Upton, of Massapequa, were driving their red minivan on the Cross Island Parkway after dropping their daughter off at college. Police say Todd Upton, 51, was shot in the neck and later died at the hospital. Neighbors say the father of three was a good man.
Udai Khemnarine, 22, of Hempstead was standing outside a restaurant when a bullet struck his leg.
The Queens District Attorney?s Office has charged Colletta with second-degree murder, assault, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of a weapon. He?s scheduled to be arraigned Sunday. Authorities believe Colletta was high on cocaine and alcohol during the incident.
