Long Island residents gathered Saturday to rally against abortion.
NY March for Life's held its ninth annual protest in Hauppauge to educate people on pro-life options.
The rally comes after a Supreme Court draft opinion leaked last month showing the high court is poised to strike down abortion rights. Nearly a dozen states are expected to impose new limits on abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned.
"If Roe is going to go, but for New York it will still be here, people will come from other states now to have abortions here," said Joni Lupis, President March For Life NY.
"We are really hoping New York will have a change of heart," said Lorraine Zito, Mattituck. "New York is the headquarters of abortion."
Earlier this week Gov. Hochul announced that she plans to pass legislation to protect abortion access here in New York.
Irina Petersen, an abortion activist and chair of the women's caucus for Islip town democratic committee, tells News 12 it's very important for women to have access to reproductive rights.
"I'm hoping whatever we pass is as protective as possible," she said. "We do need the funding we need the legal protection and I hope to see that from Albany."
