A double-murder suspect is on the loose despite a 12-hour standoff in Hempstead last night.
Police say the double shooting happened after 1 p.m. Monday at a home on 105 Belmont Parkway. One unidentified man died at the scene and a second died at the hospital.
Hostage negotiators attempted to communicate with the man who lives in the home as the Nassau Bureau of Special Operations surrounded it, but the suspect was not inside when officers were able to enter.
A neighbor tells News 12 Long Island that he saw the two young victims right before they were shot and killed. He says they were sitting in a car together, but he did not recognize the driver.
Residents along Belmont Parkway were allowed to return to their homes Tuesday.
Police have not released the identities of the two victims or the suspect.
Police are offering a $5,000 reward for anyone that has any information leading to an arrest. Any information can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
