Volunteers in Manhasset came out to ?go green? on Earth Day Sunday. The event took place at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock. Organizers taught volunteers about simple environmentally friendly changes. Those changes include switching standard light bulbs with energy efficient fluorescents that reduce carbon dioxide emissions. They also advise people to buy organic foods and use biodegradable kitchen bags. Organizers also sold $1 white pin seedlings as part of a national campaign to plant a billion trees. The event also featured signs that residents say they?ve seen all over Long Island Railroad stations. The signs are part of a campaign to urge people to stop using pesticides on their lawn. Organizers and participants stress that everyday changes can make a big difference in the world for generations to come.
