New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday that a Manhasset insurance company illegally accessed people's credit information for as long as six years.
"Social Security numbers, phone numbers, addresses, employment history and the status of your current credit and financial arrangements. It's all on the report, it's very important date, it could be stolen," Cuomo said.
Legal counsel for Administrators for the Professions Insurance confirmed two workers were fired for inappropriately accessing information. The counsel said the employees acted without the knowledge of their superiors.
The company has agreed to give each victim at least $600.
