Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano says he is the victim of "sexting" allegations involving racy messages.
The county executive says his phone was recently hacked and X-rated messages were apparently sent, but he says they did not come from him.
The hacking claims follow a CBS New York report that Mangano had allegedly sent sexual text messages to several women, some of whom replied back and carried on conversations. CBS also reported a "cut and paste" of one of those texts had been tweeted out by Karin Caro, a public relations executive.
Caro denies ever sending the tweet or receiving any of the texts. She said in a statement that "the alleged text messages and tweets are fabricated, false and never happened."
Videos and photos posted to social media accounts show Mangano and Caro have met publicly on several occasions, including at least once when Caro interviewed the executive for a video evidently on behalf of her firm.
Caro did tweet that she told police who she believes is responsible for the crime.
In her statement, she said she's going through a "trying period regarding abuse and attacks." Her attorney would not discuss specifics with News 12, but did say she is going through litigation and a divorce.
Nassau police say its Intelligence Unit and Electronics Squad is investigating the entire incident.
