New Yorkers are required starting Saturday to cover their nose and mouth when outside and near other people to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The order from Gov. Andrew Cuomo went into effect Friday at 8 p.m. It applies to everyone 2 years old and older.

The order also includes public and private transportation systems like Uber and Lyft.

Face coverings that can be worn to comply with the mandate include face masks, face shields and homemade cloth masks or bandanas.

The order does not apply in situations where you can remain 6-feet away from others, but it does apply to public transportation, busy streets and all grocery stores.

Fines are currently not being issued for non-compliance. Officials say it will be up to local governments to enforce the order.
