A landlord whose three tenants died from carbon monoxide poisoning in West Babylon is facing new charges over his Central Islip rental properties.
Wilson Milord was a no-show Wednesday in Suffolk County District Court, where he is charged with eight violations for two area rental properties. Milord has been citied for numerous infractions, including having just one electric meter for three separate living spaces.
"So, whoever moves in here, if they don't want to give up the money for the light bill, I have no choice but to pay their utility bill and mine," Milord's tenant, Shauntee Hunter, told News 12 Long Island at the property.
LIPA said it won't install separate meters in the home until Milord gains rental permits for all of the units. Islip Supervisor Phil Nolan said Milord has none.
Milord is due back in court Dec. 10 and faces up to $55,000 in fines.
Ricardo Pearce, 27, Tanisha Armstrong, 25, and 4-year-old Talani Johnson died in their illegal West Babylon apartment Nov. 20. The apartment had no heat, but did have space heaters.
