The man police say started a chase that ended in a fatal four-car crash in Medford was indicted on a second-degree manslaughter charge Tuesday.
Prosecutors say John Licausi fled from cops on May 8 after allegedly trying to sell stolen landscaping equipment. Licausi allegedly ran a red light and crashed into three cars, killing 46-year-old Scott Foster of Manorville.
Prosecutors stated in court Licausi allegedly told officers at the scene, "I had a warrant. I ran, I didn't want to get arrested." Investigators say he was on parole, has an extensive criminal history and may have been on drugs the day of the crash.
Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney Laura Newcombe says Licausi had been required to enter into drug treatment as part of his parole, but did not.
Lucausi is being held on $1 million bond and prosecutors say he could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
