A man's shortcut home ended with his rescue from a marshy area on the North Fork.
Romy Perez, 22, was walking to his home on Sixth Street in Greenport early Friday morning when he became stuck in mud and about 5 feet of water north of Silver Lake, according to police.
Perez called 911, and responders pinged his cellphone. Police said Perez was barely conscious and was suffering from hypothermia when they reached him.
He is recovering in a hospital.
