A man, 21, was shot while sitting in his car in a residential neighborhood in Selden late last night, according to Suffolk County police.

Investigators said the victim was sitting in the driver's seat on Comet Road when an unknown man approached his door, opened it and shot him in the left leg around 10:40 p.m.

“I heard a pop," Selden resident Jose Colon said. "I looked through the window, but I didn’t see anything.”

Officials said the victim got out of the car and fought with the shooter, who fled the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Video taken last night shows Suffolk County police at two additional locations believed to be connected with the shooting investigation.

Police taped off part of a parking lot in Independence Plaza and were searching a car that was parked outside the Five Guys, about 2 miles south of where police said the shooting happened. Police cars were also seen parked between Veterans Park and Hawkins Path Elementary School.

Officials have not released the victim's identity, whether they've made an arrest, who they're searching for or a potential motive.
