Man sentenced to up to 21 years in prison for crash that killed married couple in Laurel Hollow

Spanos pleaded guilty to the charges he was facing, saying to the family that there are no words to describe how sorry he is.

Dozens of family members packed a courtroom as the man responsible for drinking and driving and killing a married couple leaving a date was sentenced.
The Usmena’s two young daughters, ages 14 and 8, gave victim impact statements about their mother and stepfather’s death, which was gut wrenching for many to hear.
The 14-year-old daughter sobbed in the courtroom as she as she told the man responsible for killing her parents “my heart hurts” and “you have made my life miserable.”
Nassau District Attorney Anne Donnelly said, “It took a lot of courage for them to do that, but they assured their family members that they wanted to for their parents.”
Spanos pleaded guilty to the charges he was facing, saying to the family that there are no words to describe how sorry he is.
He even said a prayer for the two people he killed in the courtroom.
Spanos was sentenced to seven to 21 years in prison.
