A Huntington Station man convicted of murdering his teenage neighbor was sentenced to 25 years-to-life in prison Friday.
Adam Saalfield, 22, was convicted last month of slashing 18-year-old Maggie Rosales's throat on Oct. 12, 2014 while she was walking near her home on Lynch Street. Part of the attack was captured on a surveillance camera from a nearby store.
During the trial, prosecutors told jurors that investigators found a mix of Saalfield and Maggie's DNA in a quarter-mile blood trail leading from the crime scene to Saalfield's house. Prosecutors also said they seized a knife from Saalfield and clothing from his home.
Saalfield's defense attorney says his client maintains his innocence and that he will file an appeal.
Before sentencing Saalfield, the judge noted the convicted murderer's lack of remorse and lack of emotion throughout the entire trial. He called Saalfield a sociopath who had no chance of rehabilitation.
