The Suffolk County Sheriff's Office says a 27-year-old man was hit and killed while carrying a toddler on the Long Island Expressway Tuesday night.
According to authorities, the man got out of his car with the 2-year-old after crashing into the divider. Police say while out of the car, the man and baby were struck by a minivan. The man was killed, but the baby was thrown from his arms and is expected to be fine.
Officers say the eastbound lanes of the LIE between Exits 61 and 62 were closed for several hours following the crash. The driver of the minivan was taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center for trauma.
