A 21-year-old Roosevelt man died Tuesday after a bizarre accident that occurred while he was fishing off Jones Beach.
Police say Jaime Chicas? fishing hook got stuck and then the 3-ounce lead fishing weight flew out of the water and him in the head. It flew with such force that it became lodged in the back of his head. The accident took place while Chicas and his brother-in-law were fishing Friday.
Chicas died four days later from severe head trauma and herniation at NUMC.
Experts say if a fishing line gets caught, never pull up and bend the rod.
According to Newsday, he played in the same soccer league where five other men were hit by lightning Sunday.
