It only took three hours for a Queens jury to find Demetrius Blackwell guilty of the murder of an NYPD officer from Massapequa.
Brian Moore, 25, was on routine patrol in a residential Queens neighborhood on May 2, 2015 when prosecutors say he saw Blackwell acting suspiciously and fidgeting with his waistband.
They say he pulled up to Blackwell in his patrol car and asked him, "You got anything?"
According to prosecutors, Blackwell replied "Yeah, I got something" and then shot Moore in the head. Moore died two days later.
Prosecutors described Blackwell as a remorseless killer, while Blackwell's attorney based his defense on what he described as Blackwell's severe psychological problems.
Shortly after the verdict was read, Moore's parents stood in front of police officers who had assembled outside the courtroom to talk about the wonderful son they lost.
"At the end of the day, there was justice done for Brian's killing, but there is a hole and a void that will never ever be filled," said Irene Moore.
Blackwell faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
