Police are investigating after decapitated animal remains were found in a bag among donated items at the Salvation Army in Hempstead.
News 12 is told the manager of the thrift store on Front Street made the gruesome discovery while unloading a truck Monday morning.
Police say the man smelled a strange odor coming from a large bag. They say when he opened it, the man found a goat with a severed head and a decapitated chicken.
Gary Rogers of Nassau SPCA is working with police on the investigation and says whoever did this may be charged with animal cruelty. He says the suspect may also face health law violations.
The animal parts were removed by Hempstead Town Animal Control.

Rogers says the Nassau SPCA is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
