A 36-year-old West Babylon man faced a judge Tuesday afternoon, five months after police say he hit and killed a man in a wheelchair and fled.
In October, 40-year-old Michael Dora was hit and killed a half-mile from his apartment on Great East Neck Road in West Babylon.
Police say it was Christopher Bacayon who left the scene. Prosecutors say he had been out drinking that night at a club on Route 110 in Huntington.
They say Bacayon's identical twin brother, Benedict, was involved in a separate hit-and-run in October 2013.
Prosecutors say Benedict Bacayon pleaded guilty to that hit-and-run last October, just 10 days before Christopher Bacayon allegedly hit Dora.
Both crashes were just 2 miles apart.
District Attorney Tom Spota says he feels both were drunk at the time of the crash and left the scene to avoid being hit with drunken driving charges as well.
Identical twins have the same DNA, so legal experts say that could come into play if the case goes to trial. Prosecutors say they have bank records, cellphone data and witnesses to prove that it was Christopher Bacayon and not Benedict Bacayon behind the wheel.
Christopher Bacayon's bail was set at $100,000. His family posted the bail on Monday.
