A man convicted of rape in Nassau was arrested by Border Patrol agents in Arizona earlier this week for allegedly trying to get back into the country.
Juan Olarte-Cruz is a Level 2 registered sex offender who was arrested and convicted in Nassau County in 2008. He spent two years behind bars and was deported in 2010.
On Tuesday, he was arrested after he allegedly illegally entered the country from Mexico with a group of other men. Border Patrol agents say the Dirt Bike Unit tracked their footprints.
“As these agents followed these footprints, they came upon what was at least a group of five people who were actively evading arrest and running away into the mountains,” says Patrol Agent Joe Curran.
News 12 Long Island confirmed that Olarte-Cruz was convicted of felony rape. His victim was a girl who he knew under the age of 15.
Olarte-Cruz is in federal custody facing charges for immigration violations.
